First Built for Ralph Hawkes under the name Firebird X, she is the fourth of the Bloodhound design and class which included The Lady Anne, Stiarna, Foxhound and Bloodhound, all by Camper & Nicholson. Firebird was sold by H. M. Crankahaw in 1951 to JE. Green. In 1962, she became once property of Pierre Cointreau (the liquors) who named her Flamme II. Henri Rey bought her and named the boat Vindilis II. Then she became the property of Michel Perroud who gave her back her first and beautiful name. After a shipwreck in 1983, Oiseau de Feu was fully restorated in Saint-Malo at Labbé shipyards under the direction of Guy Ribadeau Dumas, according to the original plans from 1989 to 1992. She has been classified « monument historique » in France since. Now based in Cannes and owned by Jean Philippe L'Huillier, Firebird is a fast and resilient boat by heavy weather, which fully justifies the statement of her creator about shipbuilding : « an Art ». Her main sail has been changed in 2010.
